Discussion
On 16 November 2011, WfWP's Chair Alice Bouman-Dentener participated as panellist in the special event titled 'UN-Water: The Road to Rio, Water in the Green Economy for Development and Poverty Eradication.’ Some of the key expectations that specific Member States have for water and about the role the UN is expected to play towards Rio+20, were discussed and presented. UN-Water members and partners will discuss the UN-Water messages and will showcase key initiatives that have been important in supporting the role of water in the development agenda and what we can expect for water in the Rio+20 conference.
Rio +20
The United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD), 4-6 June 2012, is one of the most important events in the UN agenda. The first conference or ‘Earth Summit’ in Rio de Janeiro in 1992 summoned representatives of almost all the nations of the world to create a shared vision for reconciling economic growth with environmental protection and building a more equal world. Progress though, is uneven.
