WfWP elected a new President
The Hague, 2nd April 2014 – Women for Water Partnership announced today that Mariet Verhoef-Cohen succeeded Founding President Alice Bouman-Dentener as President of the organisation as from 1st April 2014. Mariet was elected by the Women for Water Partnership General Assembly.
Mariet Verhoef - Cohen is the director of Bacolet, a translation company and Past President of Soroptimist International of Europe (SIE). Under her leadership, Soroptimists actively contributed to providing universal access to water and sanitation as a prerequisite for women's empowerment and their social and economic development. Mariet has extensive experience in addressing women’s issues such as violence against women and in realising water projects in Eastern Europe and Africa. Mariet will continue with the motto ‘Women and their Organisations as Agents of Change!
‘ I feel very honoured to have been chosen as the new WfWP President. But first of all I would like to acknowledge the incredible work Founder President Alice Bouman-Dentener has done for WfWP. I thank her for her accomplishments in and for our organisation as well as for the Gender Water and Development nexus in general. It is extremely difficult to follow Alice as President, but I will do my utmost. I am grateful to have the opportunity to build on Alice’s work and to continue to bring WfWP to the next level.’
During the Gender-Water-Development; the untapped connection International Conference, 7 – 11 July 2014 in East London, South Africa Mrs Verhoef-Cohen will host a reception to bid farewell to the WfWP Founding President Alice Bouman-Dentener and to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Women for Water Partnership.
Women for Water Partnership is an international organisation that consists of 25 women’s networks. Our Vision is for a water secure world with equitable access for all while preserving environmental integrity.
Our Mission is to position women and their organizations as active contributors to social and economic development through pursuing Integrated Water Resources Management and universal access to water for all uses.
Our Objective is to advance internationally agreed principles for Integrated Water Resources Management, including sanitation. The partnership strives to realize its objective through:
