Katosi Women win Rio+20 award
Congratulations to the Katosi women!
The Women for Water Partnership is terribly proud of the women of the Katosi Women Development Trust (KWDT). They recently received the Women's Rio+20 Good Practice Award, in Water and Sanitation. Congratulations, ladies, from all of us!
In response to winning the Rio+20 award, Project Officer Rehema Bavuma Namagenda said: "The prize recognises the role and importance of engaging women in addressing water and sanitation issues. We are hopeful it brings to the attention of the decision makers the key role women need to play in decisions regarding access to water and adequate sanitation. Women all over the world are the ones most burdened by lack of water and adequate sanitation. The KWDT initiative demonstrates that an empowered woman can transform her life and that of her community.”
The women of the Katosi Women Devolopment Trust (KWDT) really are winners. They received an award from the Ministry of Environment and Water in Uganda, as the Best performing NGO in the water sector for the year 2008/9. The FAWCO HIV/AIDS grant competition was won in the year 2011. The Kyoto Grand Water prize followed in 2012, at the 6th World Water Forum. And now there's the 'Women's Rio+20 Good Practice Award, in Water and Sanitation', which was received during the RIO+20 Conference 2012 in Rio Brazil.
So what is it that makes the Katosi women and their projects so special? KWDT's latest progress report will give you an insight to that, as well as the Rio+20 Good Practice Award report
