South African Minister of Water and Sanitation strongly supports Sustainable Development Goals on Water and Equity
The event “Women and Water diplomacy” was organized by Women for Water Partnership, BPWI and SIE and hosted by the Netherlands Mission to the UN.
The Session included inspired presentations from inter alia Ms. HE Ms. Nomvula Mokonyane, Minister of Water and Sanitation, Republic of South Africa and Ms. Uschi Eid, Chair of United Nations Secretary-General’s Advisory Board on Water and Sanitation (UNSGAB).
Ms Mokonyane stressed the importance of dedicated SDG’s on Water and Equity and the strong support of South Africa for approval of both.
Ms. Eid affirmed the call for supporting SDGoal 5 and 6 as well and called for an (UN) “International Year of Water and Women” at the occasion of 25th Anniversary of Dublin principle 3, in 2017.
Other speakers and all participants formulated conclusions and recommendations of the session, to be disseminated widely. Click for the full document.
