Women for Water Partnership features as a successful WSSD-type2 partnership due to the proven success in bringing together global stakeholders and organising the involvement of women in improving access to basic water and sanitation. WfWP President Alice Bouman-Dentener highlights the role of Women as a key partner in achieving sustainable development; she emphasises the importance of local ownership and engagement of women in making things work on the ground. She also states some key challenges and lessons learned, in particular the challenge of involving women as equal partners in decision-making and project design and implementation. WfWP ensures that women are not viewed as beneficiaries but as active contributors to sustainable development.
Trust and accountability are mentioned as key elements of a successful partnership. Simply having the same vision of a better world is not enough.
