Brasilia women commit to water
In the run up towards the 8th World Water Forum taking place in Brasil in March 2018, Women for Water Partnership and BPW co-organized an event in Brasilia to inform and mobilize women on water-issues. The meeting was hosted by the first lady, wife of the Governor of Brasilia, Marcia Rollemberg, and supported by Soroptimist Brasilia.
WfWP steering committee member Margarida Yassuda was the driving force behind the event, which was held at the federal palace and attended by 200 women of over ten different women organisations. The presence of several regional and local media encouraged the women to sign a declaration of commitment paper titled "Commitment of the Women of Brasilia in Favor of Water".
They also agreed to a range of actions and activities for the coming months to create awareness and build capacity of women in Brasil on water issues towards WWF8. The women also plan to manufacturing a jewel, depicting the world water forum, to be sold for raising funds to enable more women to come to the forum.
