Dushanbe in the Spotlight: WfWP goes for a new Decade

The whole water sector is closely watching as Dushanbe is at the centre stage for SDG 6 and related targets. The high level symposium was organised to provide a platform for a focused and balanced discussion on policy measures, actions and means of implementation to fast-track implementation of the water SDG and related targets. It was organised by the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan in cooperation with UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN-DESA).
WfWP sent a strong delegation to this prominent symposium, with clear objectives. Steering Committee member Asha Abdulrahman:
"We have two key goals at this symposium: First, to ensure the International Decade on Water for Sustainable Development becomes a reality. Second, that we get a United Nations International Year on Water and Women in 2018.”

Six Women for Water Partnership members are present at the symposium, all performing roles as moderator or speaker at sessions about Partner Initiatives, universal and equitable access to safe and affordable drinking water for all, the protection of water-related eco-systems and improving water quality.
The Symposium offers a platform for government officials, water policy experts, businesses, and civil society representatives to discuss how to implement SDG 6 and its related targets, including an international decade of water for sustainable development, currently under consultation initiated by Tajikistan.
