Isenim (previously Mehriban) is based in Karakalpakstan, an autonomous Republic in Uzbekistan with a population of over 1.5 million. Karakalpakstan is the poorest and most deprived region in Uzbekistan; most of its population reside in rural areas with no access to safe drinking water, in some places with no source of water and to basic sanitation facilities. The main problems of the Republic are poverty, unemployment, poor drinking water quality (salty) and high morbidity.
Projects of Isenim aim to improve lives of rural people by improving quality of drinking water and the environment, by making access to adequate sanitation, raising awareness about their health, and by helping them to generate more income through increased yields of crops. The priority focus of Isenim is to improve sanitation and drinking water facilities in schools.
