Partnerships for sustainable development: Halle Snavely, as part of her Post Graduate work at Paris School of International Affairs (PSIA) at Sciences Po, Paris researched the role of partnerships and how they contribute to sustainable development. The paper gives an overview of strategic partnerships and their importance for Sustainable Development. Mariet Verhoef-Cohen, WfWP-representative of the Soroptimist International of Europe, has been portrayed by Marie-Stella-Maris in their interview series on sharing of water. As SIE President Mariet has committed her organisation to contributing to universal access to water and sanitation as a prerequisite for women's empowerment and their social and economic development. SIE has continued that commitment ever since and expanded to Water for Health, Water for Food and Water for Environment. Mariet currently serves SIE as Project Manager for Africa. Full story >>

Dushanbe Gender Forum proposes Women for Water Fund: On the eve of the High Level International Conference on Water Cooperation over 150 women and men from across the globe, including ministers, women’s civil society leaders, representatives from UN Agencies, water sector specialists, development NGOs, academia and financing partners addressed the role of women in achieving universal access to water and sanitation and discussed the preconditions to make a meaningful participation of women at all levels possible. A core recommendation was the establishment of an international Women for Water Fund to support women projects and programs in water management. The Gender Forum was opened by H.E. Ms Ruqiya Qurbonova, Deputy Prime Minister of Tajikistan, who stressed the importance of gender in water cooperation, in general and for her country. In her opening address, WfWP President Alice Bouman-Dentener reconfirmed the central role of women in the provision, management and safeguarding of water (Dublin Principle 3) and zoomed in on women’s civil society as key stakeholders. The Gender Forum was an initiative of the Women for Water Partnership and the Government of Tajikistan and was co-organised with UNW-DPAC,OXFAM-Tajikistan, UN-Women, UNDP, UNU-INWEH and SDC.

Mutual trust and understanding the real needs of communities have been emphasised as key factors for successful water cooperation by the participants of the International UN-Water Conference on water cooperation which took place from 8 to 10 January in Zaragoza, Spain. President Alice Bouman-Dentener participated on behalf of the Women for Water Partnership and presented the case of the Ayeyarwaddy RIver Basin in Myanmar where inclusive water governance with the participation of Women and Youth as key stakeholders is pursued.
