Nile Basin Discourse was started in 2003 and encompasses 600+ organisations in the Nile Basin states. The secretariat is based in Uganda.
The main Goals of NBD are: (i) to promote sustainable and equitable development, poverty reduction and cooperation between stakeholders in the Nile Basin and to create a shared vision among the riparian states; and (ii) to enhance civil society capacity to engage in and influence all Nile Basin Initiative activities. NBD has a very clear gender strategy and women’s participation and gender is one of their strategic goals.
