The National Women’s Movement (Nationale Vrouwenbeweging - NVB) is an intermediate women’s organisation between local and national level in Suriname. The foundation promotes gender equality, micro-entrepeneurship, conservation of bio-diversity, environmental awareness and water management. NVB supports several Community Based Organisations in rural areas by building capacity for sustainable drinking water facilities, low-cost irrigation and sanitation. NVB supports the empowerment of women and development of sustainable income generating activities.
The NVB is coordinator of the National Steering Committee for Sustainable Eco-sanitation and waste management in Suriname. The organisation has also run water and sanitation projects itself.
Capacity building of women is the main pillar of NVR and regular trainings are offered on a range of subjects, such as: Income generation, project development, micro-finance management, negotiation skills, conflict management, partner relations, marketing and management skills, and leadership and networking skills.
