Women for Water Needs Your Support
In 2018 various long-term funding agreements came to an end. As it stands, we will have to close our secretariat as of July 1st, 2019. This would cause an immediate ending of the secretariat support to our 27 member organisations worldwide, and leave the WfWP Steering Committee, already performing their intensive advocacy work around the world voluntarily, without any assistance.

The Hague, 28 March 2019
Dear Friends,
The impact of Women for Water Partnership (WfWP) has been steadily growing since 2004 and we have established ourselves as a crucial partner, widely recognized and appreciated by all relevant (international) water and gender organisations as well as the UN.
In 2018 we were more active than ever and visible at all important events to achieve our mission and to position women worldwide as experts and leaders to obtain equal access to water and safe sanitation for all, for all uses.
This year WfWP is key collaborating partner for the Stockholm World Water Week 2019 (the leading annual event on global water issues) and we are tasked to emphasize the vital importance of including women and girls in water resources management.
Our 27 member organisations implement life-changing projects from local, national, regional to international levels. And we contribute to major research publications on gender and water management e.g. on women’s inclusive governance in the water sector.
This has only been possible with the dedicated professional support of the WfWP secretariat in The Hague. Expenses for the secretariat over the last couple of years have already been brought down to an absolute bare minimum: we have given up our rental offices in The Hague and an initial staff of five in 2017 was reduced to one executive director together with a freelance home-based communication expert and an accountant for a few hours per month only.
In 2018 various long-term funding agreements came to an end and renewal of funding takes far more time than anticipated due to political and structural changes. This corresponds with the overall finding that women’s organisations only get 0.05% of Official Development Assistance funding directly (Research of the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development) and less than 0.1 % of the funding of charity foundations, while it is well known that women’s organisations play an important role in empowering women and achieving the SDGs in 2030.
As it stands, we will have to close our secretariat as of July 1st, 2019. This would cause an immediate ending of the secretariat support to our 27 member organisations worldwide, and, leaving the WfWP Steering Committee, already performing their intensive advocacy work around the world voluntarily, without any assistance.
We do have many funding requests and proposals outstanding and we firmly believe that several will be granted in the course of 2019/early 2020. To ensure these requests are granted, it is crucial to keep our secretariat along with our communication channels running during at least the remaining 6 months of 2019.
This can only be achieved with a donation of € 85,000 for this year, and for a structural continuation of our organisation we will need € 200,000 annually. We, therefore, urgently seek the following means of financial support to allowing essential overall secretariat and communication activities to continue in 2019:
