The Women’s Resource and Outreach Centre Limited (WROC) was established as a non-profit organization on International Women’s Day, March 8, 1983, with the purpose of providing social support for women and their families. WROC strives to build and sustain an organization that promotes gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls, and supports boys and men through various programmes.
WROC’s target groups include students, young adults (many of whom are teen parents), senior citizens women and men across all age groups in the various communities. Targeted residents generally live below the poverty line with the majority of the households being headed by women. Fluctuating levels, but almost continuous experiences of violence, further characterize the communities. These and other issues such as high rates of unemployment and weak support systems impact families negatively. Despite this, there are women and young people who have continued to fight against the odds, taking advantage of available opportunities through interventions by WROC.
