World Water Week 2018:
Women for Water Tapping into Collective Wisdom |
World Water Week is the annual focal point for the globe's water issues. It is organized by the Stockholm International Water Institute (SIWI) and this year addresses the theme "water, ecosystems and human development". Over 3,300 Experts, practitioners, decision-makers, business innovators and young professionals from 135 countries come to the Swedish capital between August 26-31 to network, exchange ideas, foster new thinking and develop solutions to the most pressing water-related challenges of today. Women for Water Partnership co-convenes, presents, moderates, facilitates and participates in multiple events.
WfWP co-organized the Tapping into collective wisdom seminar on August 26th. Moderated by our SC member Lesha Witmer, two WfWP member organisations were among the speakers: Kusum Athukorala of NetWwater Sri Lanka talked about climate change adaptation and women in Sri Lanka. And Gemma Akilimali of TGNP Tanzania on gender responsive budgeting. |

WfWP President Mariet Verhoef-Cohen at the closing of the event received the baton of SIWI, since we have been asked to be one of the Key Collaborating Partners for World Water Week 2019! An honour and clear message of SIWI they want to mainstream women and gender into the water world!
Kusum Athukorala of NetWwater will also present during the Women and Children event on August 29th, demonstrating how women and children are the catalysts of change in Sri Lanka:
